The city of Cape Town has been struck by uncontrollable fires for the last few days. Upon catching wind of this, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers immediately stepped in to assist with the raging blaze. Battling thick smoke and unbearable heat, they to volunteered hours with firefighters, bringing needful supplies to university student displacement sites, trauma counselling to firefighters and more to assist.

Following news of the runaway fire and the Business District of Cape Town being greeted by a thick layer of smoke veiling city streets, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers answered the call immediately.

Despite the risks involved, they went directly to multiple fire stations and fire officials to ask what was needed and wanted.

The answer was, of course, supplies, distribution and anything else they can provide. However, in the case that it was necessary, they were also asked to provide any therapeutic assistance they could, as it was made known that this is one skill a Scientology Volunteer Minister is trained to deliver.

They sprung immediately into action by setting tents to deliver counselling to firefighters coming down from the fiery mountains and delivering food and water with other members of the community to various displacement sites.

“Hearing of the disaster, we immediately raced to assist our community. It was inspiring to see other organizations and residents banding together to make sure our firefighters had all the support they needed to battle this raging fire” ,said Dylan Cefail, a Scientology Volunteer Minister from Joburg who has been in Cape Town for over 300 days to help the city with the covid-19 pandemic.

“Amid our usual work on the frontlines, we couldn’t keep a blind eye to the fire”, added Dylan.

He considers that helping the brave firefighters who are risking their lives and backing them up is the least he can do.

More vehicles were further organized as additional support by the volunteers, bringing more food, water, and eye drops (necessary due to the amount of smoke) and other needful supplies to displaced university students, fire stations surrounding the Central Fire Station & Sentrale Brandweerstasie and more. This activity continued from the morning until late at night.

In turn, the firefighters were very grateful for the assistance and one Divisional Commander at one of the stations expressed great thanks to the Scientology Volunteer Ministers’ presence during this time.

Since the lockdown started in South Africa, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have decontaminated over 63,000 buildings nationally, they have donated over a million hours on the frontline during the covid-19 pandemic and have sanitized over 1.2 million taxis, fire engines, buses and more to curb the spread of covid-19 across the country.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers disaster response has responded to more than 200 disasters over the last 4 decades, from 911 to earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods or the like internationally to bring help to millions.

Staying true to their mandate set forth by L. Ron Hubbard, they show that no matter the situation, no matter the circumstance, something can be done about it- the motto of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers.
